Prof Maliah, the former Dean of the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, IIUM, has 40 years of experience as an academic in Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. Prior to joining academia, she was attached to a public accountants’ firm. She has significant experience in managing and developing accounting courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the international level, she was a recipient of four prestigious awards:-
- JSPS (Japan Society for the promotion of Sciences) fellowship
- ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities) fellowship
- Mevlana Exchange program to Turkey
- 100 Most Influential Women in Islamic Business and Finance in 2019 and 2020.
She has published widely in the areas of Islamic Accounting, Environmental Accounting as well as in Management Accounting. She was appointed as an expert panel member of ISO 14051, ISO 14052, and ISO 14053 standards on Material Flow Cost Accounting by the Geneva-based International Standards Organization. She was also appointed by the Minister of Finance, Malaysia to sit on the Board of the Malaysian Accounting Standards as well as a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at IIUM and is a member of the Advisory Committee on Accounting Standards for Waqf, Zakat, and Baitulmal. Additionally, at the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), she sits on the Education Board, the Joint Technical Committee of MIA-MQA (for Accounting) as well as the Islamic Finance Committee. She is also the Program assessor for undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programs of various universities in Malaysia.
